The boat was made in the carpentry shop by the staff and inmates of Arbour Hill Prison.
The sail was embroidered in the fabric shop by male inmates of Arbour Hill Prison. It symbolises “Hidden Lives” and “Hidden History”.
Little is known of the stories of 3,216 women and 506 children who were taken to Tasmania from Ireland in the mid 1800’s.
They were taken from their families, their homes and sent to Australia.
Very few were afforded the opportunity to return to their homeland.
