The objectives of this course are:

  1. Discuss the history of drowning and it's care.
  2. Describe the Drowning chain of survival
  3. Differentiate drowning from water rescue (non-drowning) patients.
  4. Describe the pathophysiology of the drowning patient.
  5. Describe the basic and advanced care of the droning patient.

This course has 8 lessons made up of short videos, discussion, summative and formative knowledge checks and activities. It includes case discussions and videos of actual victims. This content may be disturbing to some viewers. Viewer discretion is advised.

Tikanga Marutau Wai Mō Te Hapori Māori - Online Course

E aro atu ana tēnei kōwae ki ngā ngohe wai i roto i te hapori Māori, pēnei mai i te waka ama, ruku kai moana, me te hī ika mā te kupenga.
This module covers water activities in the Maori community, including waka ama, diving for seafood, and net fishing.

He whakaakoranga, he kiriata mō ia kaupapa, ā he wāhi pānui, ka mutu he whakamātautau kia kite i tō mōhiotanga.
There is a lesson and video on each topic, then a small amount of reading and after that a quiz to check your understanding.

Drowning Prevention Auckland (formerly WaterSafe Auckland) is a lead agency for regional water safety coordination and education in the Auckland region. Our aim is to effect behaviour change, helping people to operate differently around water – developing risk-awareness, water consciousness and water competence – to keep themselves and others safer in, on and around water.
