Garda Dave Hearne (47), a native of Fethard-on-Sea in County Wexford, was attached to the Waterford Divisional Traffic Corps in Ballybricken and was a former member of the Garda Water Unit. Garda Hearne died on May 25 2019 while scuba diving off Hook Head.
During his decorated and highly acclaimed career, Garda Hearne, who is survived by wife Barbara and children Dylan, Toby, Noah and Libby, saved nine people from drowning. Garda Hearne, who spoke about his work at the Foundation's 2018 Conference, was also the charity's police rescue advisor.
The legacy of the late Garda Dave Hearne is honoured by this donation of a range of sub aqua diving manuals to the Foundation’s Collection at WIT's Luke Wadding Library and by a special event that will be held during the Lifesaving Foundation's 2020 Conference which will be held in Waterford.
