Ann Anderson Biography

Ann Anderson, Bonnet made by Sheila Sexton, Waterford. 2nd Bonnet made by Allison Ward, Perth, Australia – her Great Great Great Great Granddaughter.

Ann Anderson, Convict No.131655, from Waterford, was christened on 27th August 1798 in St. Patrick’s Church, Waterford. However, from other records it would appear that she was born in 1796. (It would be unusual to be christened 2 years after birth so this might suggest perhaps an error on the Church Records). Ann’s father was Robert Anderson and Mother Ann, nee Connor. Her parents were married on 27th March 1791 at St. Olaf’s, Waterford.

Ann was tried in Clare for larceny and sentenced to 7 years transportation. She was described as being of a dark complexion with brown hair and hazel eyes.

Ann departed on the John Bull on 25th July 1821 from Cork, arriving in New South Wales on the 18th December 1821.

Ann married Thomas Green at St. John’s, Launceston, Australia on 11th December 1825. Ann and Thomas had 4 children, 2 daughters and 2 sons.

Ann was still a prisoner when she married and became free of servitude circa 1828.

Ann died on 27th May 1847 at New Norfolk Asylum from paralysis, aged 51. (Further suggesting her DOB circa 1796).
